Scholarship Program
Academic year 2012-2013 Scholarship Application is now closed!
Purpose
There are 2 specific purposes for the scholarship program: 1) the establishment of an incentive to excel in academic performance; and 2) the pursuit of higher education.

Target population
Circassian college students pursuing higher college education.

Eligibility criteria
  1. Circassian college students registered, as full-time students, in the academic year 2012-2013 in freshman, sophomore, junior and senior college levels.
  2. Enrollment in an accredited college or university in the USA.
  3. US citizen or permanent resident. However, international students may be eligible on a case by case basis. The Foundation may award limited scholarships to international Circassian students based upon the discretion of the Board of Directors.
This year's Scholarship program deadline (September 15, 2012) will not be extended.

The number of schalarships and amount awarded has been decided and will be awarded based on a first come first serve bases. Therefore, please be sure to complete your online application with all supporting documents as early as possible.


Procedure
Each applicant is required to submit the following:
  1. Fill out an online application Scholarship online application form
  2. Submit an online essay of a minimum of 500 words. Essay Topics include.
    • College major choice: how should college major be choses? what are the goals? what information is needed for this decision? where to get such information?
    • Understanding the changing economy: in the past 4 years the US economy underwent major changes including a depression, slow recovery and loss of jobs; how does this affect young students and their career planning?
    • How do you define ethics? and what is the basis of ethics? is it law? religion? UN declaration of human rights, common community standards? How would different definitions and bases for ethics affect your life?
    An essay less than the 500 words will automatically disqualified from the scholarship
  3. Mail original copies of test scores from testing organizations (unofficial copies will not be accepted) - Freshman level students must submit the SAT scores. Sophomore, junior and senior level students must submit official GPA scores by the college or univeristy (unofficial copies will not be accepted). All official documents must be mailed to the Circassian Education Foundation P.O. Box 2276, Wayne, NJ 07470.
  4. Submit proof of full-time enrollment in an accredited college or university in the USA. Official Transcripts from the University or College must be mailed to the Circassian Education Foundation P.O. Box 2276, Wayne, NJ 07470.
  5. The number of times students can apply for this schollarship is: county college students (normally a 2 year college) three years or three attempts and four year college students are limited to five years or five attempts.
  6. Incomplete applications will be ineligible. (if all the above items are not met your application will be incomplete and thus ineligible for a scholarship - you will not receive a scholarship.)
  7. On Sunday September 30th, 2012 at 12:00 pm, the CEF will hold a scholarship application orientation meeting at the CBA. All awarded candidates are required to attend. Failure to attend will disqualify you of the scholarship.
    Out of state students are exempted

The applications will be reviewed and the applicants will be ranked according to their essay scores and SAT or GPA scores. A number of scholarships will be awarded starting and descending from the highest rank. In addition to the general scholarship awards, the applicants with the top essays and the applicants with the top SAT or GPA scores will receive additional awards. The final number of scholarships will be determined by the Circassian Education Foundation Board of Directors depending on the amounts of scholarship funds raised throughout the year.

At the dinner, the scholarship awards will be announced. Each winner will receive an acknowledgment certificate from the Circassian Education Foundation and a check in the amount of the award. The scholarship award will be payable to the college or university in which the student is registered.

Scholarship winners must attend the scholarship dinner to be eligible to receive an award.


Fund raising
The Circassian Education Foundation is a non profit tax exempt organization. Donations may be tax deductible. Donations of any amount will be acceptable.

The scholarship application deadline is September 15, 2012.
